Ward's presentation is Software Defined Radios, and will include his experiences
designing and building his own hombrew design.
Mr. Harriman obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1977. He remained in the Boston area working for several computer networking companies including Bolt Beranek and Newman and Wellfleet Communications. Both companies were instrumental in developing the ARPA Net and nascent Internet. Mr. Harriman was employed as a digital designer and architect Mr. Harriman retired in 2005 and turned his interests to relearning analog and RF design. He studied for and passed the Technician, General, and Extra exams including the ‘code’ requirement. He became interested in the diverse topics of antenna modeling, home brew design and construction and Software Defined Radio. Mr. Harriman has designed his own SDR hardware and written his own software. He operates CW using this home brew rig and simple wire antennas. Recent interests involve providing tools to the amateur radio community. His first project was a new Smith Chart software package called SimSmith. His second (and ongoing) project is a exploration tool aimed at the DSP newcomer. It is called “dspExplorer”.
