Jim Duffey, KK6MC
Biography: Jim, KK6MC, was first licensed in South
Dakota as WN0MWN at age 14 in 1965. He upgraded to a general class
license, WA0MWN, a year later. He acquired N7ATB while doing a post
doc at the University of Utah and received his present call when he
checked the wrong box on a 610 when renewing his license from California.
He became interested in QRP in 1994 when he became aware of the QRP-L
reflector. Known as Dr. Megacycle, the Mc or more properly Mcps, was
the unit of frequency measurement prior to the adaptation of Hz in
1967, he offers unsolicited antenna advice to anyone who will read it.
In addition to QRP, Jim enjoys satellite operation, contesting, CW, RTTY, and
PSK. He planned the antennas for the QRP Field Operation of AA5B,
which finished 5th place overall in 2004.
By profession, Jim is a solid state physicist specializing in infrared detectors and electronics for space. He is employed by Science Applications International Corporation, SAIC, where he is a Chief Scientist.
