Kit Building Workshop

Friday Evening, April 25, 2008

Never built a kit or have questions about building ham projects? Here's your opportunity to learn from the expert. Friday night we are hosting a kit building hands-on workshop (2 sessions) where you can build a working QRP kit. First time builders welcome!

The instructor for the evening workshop will be Joe Eisenberg, KØNEB.  Joe will guide you through the building process, starting with the "bag of parts" to the finished project.

Note that there are only 20 seats available per session, however you need to pre-register for the workshop to reserve your seat.  The cost of the workshop is FREE, which includes the kit.

SKC Keyer KitThe kit selected for tonight's build is the Simple Keyer Chip keyer, donated by Doug Hendricks at QRPKITS.com.  Be sure to thank Doug for his generosity!

At the conclusion of the session, you will have a working keyer ready to use on the air to key your QRP transmitter. This is a easy project with no static sensitive parts.

The kit is included with your workshop registration, however you will need to bring your own hand tools for the session:
* Soldering iron with a stand. A small tip on the iron is suggested. This could be a simple 25 watt iron with a bent coat hanger stand.
* Damp sponge to clean the soldering iron tip
* Rosin core solder - Kester "44" or similar. Note that we will have some spare solder available.
* Small wire cutters
* Needle nose pliers
* Analog or digital VOM (Volt, Ohm, Milliameter). Note that we will have some meters available in case you don't have one.
* Magnifier and/or light
-  Optional - Paddle with 1/8 plug, a 9 or 12 volt battery, some clip leads and a Piezo electric speaker or headphones to test your completed kit.
